Glastonbury fans offered new chance to register

Demand forces organisers to give festival-goers second opportunity

Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis is offering festival-goers a new chance to register and buy tickets for this year?s event.

Registration will re-open at 4pm today (April 8), www.glastonburyregistration.co.uk.

Festival-goers will need to submit basic personal details and a passport quality photo.

Once their application has been accepted they will be sent a confirmation email with a link enabling them to buy tickets immediately.

Ticket prices for a weekend ticket are ?155, plus ?5 booking fee per ticket and ?4 post and packaging per order.

"We?ve had a lot of enquiries from people asking if they can register, especially now they realise it?s still possible to buy tickets," said Eavis. "This will give them the chance to see the best line-up of any festival this summer."

Check out NME.COM's handy guide for Glastonbury's late registration now.

The process of registering was introduced for the first time last year in order to deter ticket touts.

This year's festival takes place over the weekend 27-29 June. Kings Of Leon, Jay-Z and The Verve will headline the event at Worthy Farm.

Over 100,000 tickets for the three-day bash have been snapped up since they went on sale at 9am on Sunday morning (April 6).

Sad times...it feels like glastonbury has lost it a bit this year...and it definitely doesn't have the best line up, thats part of the problem...

"We’ve had a lot of enquiries from people asking if they can register, especially now they realise it’s still possible to buy tickets," said Eavis. "This will give them the chance to see the best line-up of any festival this summer."So good that not all the tickets have sold out.

I'm REALLY worried about this turn around. I don’t want the last 37,000 tickets that are available going to the people who couldn’t be bothered to register in the 6 week period available earlier in the year, if you wanted to go you'd have registered and you'd have been up with the rest of us on Sunday morning (although finding out that I didn’t have to get up early at all is a bit of a kick in the nuts). I don’t want people to go to Glasto because "there are tickets still available", I want people to go that are like me and my friends who have been going for the last 5 festivals and dealing with the hideous weather (and the questionable headliners, Arctic Monkeys included!), waking up at stupid o'clock on a Sunday morning, hammering the F5 button and redialing like a mad person. I guess I'm just going to have to wait and see which is the worst element this year, the weather, the line up or the crowd. I can deal with dodgy weather and music that isn’t to my taste but if Glasto gets swamped by 37,000 tent robbing chavs I wont be happy!

What is all this talk of the line up? Anybody he's been to Glastonbury will know the line up is just a small part of an absolutely amazing experience! There is so much more to it! I for one can not wait! If you dont like Jay Z, go to one of the other many stages.

I think Mr. Eavis might be getting slightly out of touch with what we want to see at a festival. I mean... Jay-Z?! Who the fuck is that?! And sure... The Verve... but don't forget they're playing V Festival as well... but they're nowhere near the top of the bill!! I think that says a lot... Glasto got it wrong this year. The old hippies won't give a shit, they'll be there like they are every year!

50,000 less wankers not gettnig in the way of my me watching Jay-Z suits me fine

The people stating that the line up is the reason for "poor" ticket sales (100,000 in a day isn't really that poor - the festival WILL inevitably sell out) are really, really missing the point. The festival is better off without those people anyway. The sole reason is, unfortunately, the weater and the ever-shifting British summer. So what if Jay Z is headlining on one particulr night? There are about 3000 other stages with some undoubtedly interesting stuff going on at the same time. Glastonbury has always been about GLASTONBURY, not one partictular act. Ask any of the massive headliners that have played down the years and they will say exactly the same. I got my ticket, and I can't wait for Glastonbury number 10.God bless Glastonbury, and God bless Michael Eavis, he should be knighted for the crap that he puts up with over this.

Woaaah, im sorry but why are people making out like Glastonbury has a bad line up this year? We've only seen the headliners and a few home grown acts (kate nash, amy winehouse, team waterpolo etc). The headliners are great, kings of leon are one of the best bands out there with anthems that are guarenteed to get the crowd singing, the verve only needs one phrase - bittersweet symphony. one of the best bands of the 90's, why the hell would that be bad? and jay-z, so what if he's not standard for festivals, shirley bassy was at last years festival and she was a hit, so much the monkeys even payed homage to her. besides last year i saw kanye west at v festival, front row, and it was one of the best proformances i have ever seen. How do you know tha when jay-z plays, it will be bad? you never know, linkin park are in the uk around the same time... may have a suprise up our sleeves. the reason not so many tickets have sold isnt becasuse of the line up, its the weather. i know loads of people who went last year who just said they dont wanna go through with the mud again and have decided to do v or leeds. no matter what glasto will still be the biggest and best festival in the uk and long live it!

"What is all this talk of the line up? Anybody he's been to Glastonbury will know the line up is just a small part of an absolutely amazing experience!"Yes that is true, I do agree but my problem is that the headliners are just not worthy of headlining Glastonbury. Of course you can still have fun at Glasto without the music but having incredible bands just tops off the experience and makes it feel more whole.

i agree completely with 3DJimbo.why don't the real glastonbury fans ever get rewarded? i've been every year since 1994 come rain, mud, second stage sinking, increasing food prices, getting all our money nicked on the first night in 1997 and an increasingly poor line up. i woke up like all the true fans and nervously pressed redial whilst simultaneously trying to get tickets on the internet and was genuinely ecstatic when got through around 10.30.i hate Jay Z. Like Paul Heaton said when the Beautiful South played in 1999 "it's a bit like having the Bee Gees at a Happy Mondays gig".You've got Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Muse, Morrissey and smaller bands like Portishead and Supergrass who all deserve the headlining slot. What are they playing at? Is they want Jay Z to play - put him elsewhere on the bill.I think everyone who bought tickets initially for this year's bash should get first refusal on tickets for next year. (See you by the Pear Cider bus).

3djimbo - Glasto's always had the "chav" element like any other festival. Reopening the ticket gates might be a good thing though - the last couple of Glastonburies I've been to have felt a bit straight, because the crazy people who make it what it is aren't the kind who are going to be hitting the phones and internet at 9am on a Sunday... so maybe some of them will be able to get tickets this time. I can't go this year but if I was I'd be more worried about the weather than the lineup... I usually miss the headliners but they're not the reason you go, as you don't usually know who they are til you've bought your ticket

rubsy ur spot on...i went to glasto from 1979 until the 1990s always went for the experience...but with cash machines cyber cafes an all that mordern living put me off....hillbilly-87 u clueless moron i think ul find the verve are headlining v festival and if they arnt its because they are at glastonbury...but generally folks stop going on an on about it...either u go or u dont...think about it,could any1 of u whingers set up something better..eeeeeerrrrrrrrr no.....u all seem to think u all have the right to decide who's headlining where....i have been to probably every major festival in europe in my time and u very rarely find a line up that caters for all,but folk go to have FUN an relax meet up with m8s get completly fooked up on booze an drugs watch bands they may not normally bother with so u dud heads go have fun an stop ur fookin whinging...remember if their were no festivals what would u be whinging about instead....

If Linkin Park go anywhere near that main stage with their drippy soft rock when Jay-Z is playing, I will personally make that short trip to the Cider bus, drink its entire reserves, piss in a huge barrel and catapult it towards the main stage.

Eavis has doe the right thing. 30,000 spare tickets makes a shortfall of about £4.5 milion quid, which would make the festival less tennable for the future: they'd be less able run the site and less able to secure good bands. As for the popularity of the festival, my first glasto was 1998 and they were selling tickets until early June (at the time, the slow sales was put down to the football world cup that was on at the time). Since then Glasto has become a lot more popular: with good reason, it's bigger, better run and safer; with only a few small concessions to commercial pressures. A small decline in the rate of ticket sales is pretty trivial, in my opinion. Long live Glaso!

Eavis has pulled off a master stroke. he has managed to lose the interest of all the tossers who were so miserable last year and attracted only those who truly want to experience glastonbury, which is why this years will be so much better without you whinging wankers.Complaining about 1 act out of 1000 or so?!? get a life.

Oh dear. This smacks of desperation really, doesn't it? As it has been said, the good thing is that he's managed to get rid of the pillocks that have suffocated it in previous years. But instead of re-opening registration, he should just cap it, take the hit on the tickets, and take them off sale now. The first year i went (2002) I think there was only 100,000 - that was ample. Wasn't over-crowded, and it was relaxed. Why does he feel the need to pack the place to the rafters? I think Eavis is flogging a dead horse. Those that didn't register in the SIX WEEKS you were able to, are not going to turn around and register now. Not after the press Glasto has been getting over the last few days.On a music tip, it doesnt matter to me who headlines. I rarely spend any time at the Pyramid Stage anyway, Infact, the last headliner I wathed on the PS was White Stripes.

it's a shame but i really don't think glastonbury will sell out this year. like a previous poster pointed out, all those who would have been interested would have already registered in the first instance.on a personal note, the only reason i'm not heading back to the fields of somerset is purely for financial reasons but there are many more.yes as roger off the who says the weather is a big problem. while it shouldn't, it does. there's so much to see, do and consume that you really have to be willing to lug yourself a long way to do it all. this is made so difficult by the foot of mud underneath you that you end up sitting in the tent or at a stage you really don't wanna be at.the line-up is another. an american rapper, an amazing band who only have three albums and lack the arena presence of muse or radiohead and a washed up british band riding on the wave of reformations. it doesn't bode well does it. yes they'll be surprise shows and probably bigger names playing prior to the headliners but as glasto takes the strange steps of not releasing the line-up before the sale of tickets no-one really knows what to expect.then there's the price. reading a bbc report yesterday that outlined the publics desire for sunny climes while taking in the sounds of their favourite acts has forced many to take the relative easy choice of spending less money and going abroad. i've wanted to do this for years. imagine, in spain, on a beach, watching radiohead, crazy! no contest really when up against wet somerset and a 400 suid bill to buy tickets and invest in spending money for the weekend.i will miss glastonbury this year. when you're broke perspectives become so much clearer.x

This just means things are back to normal after a few crazy years in which the festival sold out in a few hours. Up until 2002 it always took months. And the headliners have always been a bit rubbish - anyone remember the year of Stereophonics, Coldplay and Rod Stewart? Moby? And one grim year in the early 90s, Shakespear's Sister? I think Jay-Z is actually a good choice, something different; and while you'd have to be dead inside to want to sit through Kings of Leon or the Verve, there's loads of other stages and stuff going on. That's the point.

Capshotlumbago

Apr 8, 2008

To be honest I think Jay-Z will pull it off. I'm more put off by the Verve and where as I might be intregued to see what Jay-Z is like live I'd rather stick pins in me eyeballs than watch The Verve. For me that Sunday headline slot is what most people I know are pissed off about. What I really don't want to see is any animosity between fans- that would be a disaster. Anyone worried about Jay-z can send back their tickets in protest and/or to buy tickets for the O2 fest If it's that important to them.

I've been going to Glatonbury for about 8 years now but decided last year would be the last. The increased capacity seemed to completely kill the spirit of what was once a really special place. Despite the fact we were all crammed in together getting stuck in traffic jams going to and from the main stages, people just didn't seem to have any time for each other. The usual shouting and hollering through the night in the campsites was non existent. I don't think it's true to blame the weather because haven't muddy glastonbury's often created the best atmosphere's? Last year i spent a lot of time seeking refuge in lost vagueness but apparently this year thats going to be scrapped. Seems such a shame to get rid of the genuinely unique parts of what is becoming a completely un unique festival. Like Neighbours after it moved to channel 5 i guess it's just another thing that's let me down...
