Despite Glastonbury diss, Gallagher says he's a fan of the rapper

Despite saying that Jay-Z was \"wrong\" for Glastonbury, Oasis' Noel Gallagher has said that he is, in fact, a fan of the rapper.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, the Manchester legend said that if offence was caused by his previous remarks about the Glastonbury headliner, journalists shouldn't ask him questions in the first place.

"For the record, I Iike Jay-Z," he said. "That's my opinion. If it offends people, don't ask me any more questions. I should do these things and answer like every two-bit pop star."

Jay-Z opened his Glastonbury set last Saturday (June 28) with samples of Gallagher saying he had "no chance" at the festival, then covered Oasis' massive 1995 hit 'Wonderwall'.

Typical. A Gallagher brother makes short-sighted comment only to retract it, when he's in-danger of looking like a prick.Like Oasis meant something or had been socially important for once in the last 10years.

You miss the point, whatever Noel says goes, if he says Jay-Z shouldn't be at Glasto then he shouldn't, Noel is a god in my eyes. Oasis are the most important band of the last 20 years so dirtdingus roll with that! ;)

dirtdingus, if your comment is mostly true, one exception remains. noel's disapproval of jay-z' headline resonated the truth. tickets for this lackluster event did not sell out until the very last day.michael eavis is too dishonest to admit that jay-z's performance was not successful enough to warrant another hiphop act to headline glastonbury 2008.

Funny you say that, considering Oasis are leading NME's latest poll over festival bands. Obviously they mean something to someone.

To be fair to Noel he never said he disliked Jay Z or his music. He just stated that he thought he wasn't suited for Glastonbury. This opinion was mirrored by many others also including Dizzee Rascal remember who said Jay Z didn't have the 'crossover appeal' of a Kanye or Eminem. Did that draw huge headlines? No. But Noel Gallagher voices his opinion and all of a sudden the press label him controversial and make a big deal out of it. The man had a valid point and isn't retracting anything he has said. He's simply stating the facts. He never said he disliked Jay Z yet a lot of people have wrongly drawn that conclusion.
