Glastonbury named Best Live Event at Shockwaves NME Awards 2009
The 2008 Glastonbury festival has been named Best Live Event at the Shockwaves NME Awards tonight (February 25).

The event featured headline performances from Kings Of Leon, The Verve, and a now-legendary Saturday night slot from Jay-Z.

The award was picked up by festival chief Michael Eavis and his daughter and co-organiser Emily Eavis, from this year's awards host Mark Watson.

On accepting the award, Michael Eavis paid tribute to two of the 2008 headliners and one other notable figure: "Thanks to Kings and Jay-Z, and thanks to Noel for the publicity campaign. Thanks to the 150,000 who kept the faith. See you later this year!"
