Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis to quit in two years

Eavis to hand over reigns to daughter Emily

Glastonbury festival boss Michael Eavis has said that he plans to quit organising the event after 2011.

The farmer told the Guardian that he planned to fully hand over the reigns to his daughter Emily and her fiancé Nick, with the pair to have a growing influence until the handover is complete.

He said he had "two more full years" at the helm himself, and added that he still wanted to be involved in the bash after the handover.

"I still feel I have an important role to play," he said. "Even if I go I'll worry about the drains, the rubbish, the recycling. There will be a gradual process of her and Nick taking it over."

Glastonbury takes place this weekend (June 26-28) and will be headlined by Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Blur.

Today's Glastonbury weather report suggests that it should be mainly dry, but with a chance of a downpour on Saturday (June 27).

I firmly believe that Emily's influence is ruining Glastonbury. I'm not going this year, the first time since 1995. To many urban acts and no hippy spirit. Last year the stone circle was dead and all you could hear was Dizzy Rascal! Jay Z was awful and everyone I spoke to agreed. The Park area is stupid, too close to the green fields. Time to find another festival.
