Carl Barat joins Glasvegas at Edinburgh Hogmanay

The former Libertine helped the Glaswegians see in 2009

Carl Barat appeared onstage with Glasvegas as they played Edinburgh's annual Hogmanay celebration last night (December 31).

The former Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things man arrived on the Waverley Stage in the Scottish capital's streets near the end of the band's set, with him and frontman James Allan singing a version of 'We'll Meet Again', made famous during World War II by Dame Vera Lynn and more recently by Johnny Cash.

Barat then provided backing guitar on the closing 'Daddy's Gone' to huge applause and a mass singalong from the crowd.

Glasvegas played eight of the ten tracks from their recent self-titled debut album and one, 'Please Come Back Home', from their Christmas mini-album 'A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like a Kiss)'. Allan dedicated 'Ice Cream Van' to his mother.

Also playing across two stages at the event were Friendly Fires, Broken Records, Attic Lights and Groove Armada.

Friendly Fires' set included 'Jump in the Pool', 'Paris', 'Ex-Lover' and a version of 'White Diamonds' marked by a rain of ticker tape.

Glasvegas played:

'Flowers And Football Tops'
'Lonesome Swan'
'It's My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry'
'Polmont On My Mind'
'Please Come Back Home'
'Geraldine'
'Ice Cream Van'
'Go Square Go'
'We'll Meet Again'
'Daddy's Gone'

yawn...james allen is a very strong contender for the dullest, most miserable lead singer in the history of music.

Barat is just as boring as James Allen. Pete doherty an babyshambles two albums r so much better than anything barat has done since they split. Shambles 4ever
