Alison Goldfrapp curates exhibition at Salford’s Lowry gallery

Goldfrapp release their new album 'Tales Of Us' next week

Goldfrapp frontwoman Alison Goldfrapp is curating an exhibition at The Lowry in Salford.

The first Performer as Curator exhibit will open on October 19 and close March 2, 2014 and sees Goldfrapp select works which have inspired her own artistic vision. A press release for the event says that the pieces chosen “will portray the artist’s fascination in the darker side of fairy tales and folklore”. Artists on display include Marcel Dzama, John Stezaker, Leonora Carrington, Jan Pienkowski and Lotte Reiniger.

Head of Visual Art and Engagement at the Lowry, Michael Simpson, said that other performers will follow in Goldfrapp’s footsteps: “The Lowry is a unique venue that combines major theatres and galleries under one roof, and we value working with dancers, musicians and actors in our galleries, and artists in our theatres,” he commented. “Alison Goldfrapp was a natural first choice for us, given her remarkable synthesis of music and visual imagery. This is an exciting new venture for us and there are more collaborations in the pipeline”.

Goldfrapp will release their sixth studio album, ‘Tales Of Us’, on September 9. It’s the duo’s follow-up to 2010’s ‘Head First’, which became their third straight UK Top Ten album. ‘Tales Of Us’ was apparently “two years in the crafting” and is billed as Goldfrapp’s “most narrative, cinematic and intimate recording so far”. An atmospheric trailer for the album can be viewed now on the band’s official website.

The band will also embark on a short European headline tour this October and November, including one UK date at London’s Hammersmith Apollo on November 1.

The ‘Tales Of Us’ tracklisting is:

‘Jo’
‘Annabel’
‘Drew’
‘Ulla’
‘Alvar’
‘Thea’
‘Simone’
‘Stranger’
‘Laurel’
‘Clay’
