Gorillaz's Murdoc Niccals plays 'Plastic Beach' songs during NME Radio hijack

Fictional frontman is a bit fuzzy on track titles though…

Gorillaz's Murdoc Niccals has 'hijacked' NME.COM/radio for the second time in two weeks, and today (February 3) premiered unreleased tracks from the cartoon band's forthcoming album, 'Plastic Beach'.

Murdoc took to the airwaves at 3pm (GMT), saying that once again he was "broadcasting from the most deserted spot on the planet" and that the name of his station was Point Nemo FM. His first hijacking of NME Radio took place on January 21, and saw him play the likes of The Horrors and The Dead Weather.

In today's show he announced that he had something extra special to play listeners. "Next track here is from the new Gorillaz album… you're so lucky!" he said, before stating that he was thinking of calling the track 'Pink Stinkfish'.

After playing roughly 30 seconds of the song, Murdoc interrupted it, saying: "I can't call that 'Pink Stinkfish'… I can't, I just can't do that! You can't do it, can you?"

He then played a selection of tracks by other bands, including 'Plastic Man' by The Kinks, after which he previewed a second unreleased Gorillaz track.

"So I've got another treat coming up for you, believe it or not," Murdoc said, before boasting that Gorillaz's new album is "the best of the 12 that we've done". He then played an instrumental snippet of the new track, initially saying it was to be called 'The House Of The Pinky Stinkfish' (but then admitting he might change it).

Murdoc ended his show with Jim Carroll's 'People Who Died', after which he hinted that he would be back in the near future.

"Next time, next week, I'll be doing another show broadcasting on Point Nemo FM," he said, adding: "I'll be able to tell you who's collaborated on all those tracks, and more…"
