The Gossip look set hit the UK Top 40 on Sunday (January 28) with ’Standing In The Way Of Control’.

Despite no longer being available as an official single, the song is the latest to feel the benefit of the new chart rules that allow any purchased download to count towards the singles chart whether a physical release exists or not.

The song, which was released last year and reached Number 64, has found favour again after Soulwax’s remix of the song has been used in trailers for new E4 teen drama ’Skins’, which airs from January 25.

The song climbed to Number 42 in last week’s chart and according to current unofficial midweeks looks set to be comfortably within the Top 40 on Sunday.

As previously reported, an official reissue of the track is due on March 5.

With the song following the likes of Snow Patrol and Billie Piper, who have found their old tracks re-entering the charts since the rule change on January 1, NME.COM has been pondering which old songs could be due a revival in the single’s chart.
