Gossip singer Beth Ditto has claimed that too many modern albums are clogged up with "filler".

Speaking to Elle magazine, the frontwoman insisted that she and her bandmates had tried to make sure their latest LP 'A Joyful Noise' was a consistent record, rather than putting out a LP which boasted just a handful of singles.

She said:

We've made an album of songs. So many albums are a couple of singles, then filler.

Ditto also admitted that she didn't expect fans to buy her band's records if they hadn't seen them in concert, adding: "I wouldn't buy our records if I hadn't seen us live first. Gossip is a band you want to go and see."

'A Joyful Noise', which was released on May 14, is the Gossip's first album since their 2009 effort 'Music For Men'. The LP was produced by Brian Higgins from pop production company Xenomania and Mark Ronson.

Speaking previously about working with Ronson, Ditto told NME: "One of our most common bonds was that we both loved big voices, church voices. He loves country music, which is a big deal to me because, you know, in terms of things I love, country music is probably number one, then it's punk and hip-hop."

However, Ronson subsequently revealed that he decided to end his sessions with the band on the album after the death of his former collaborator Amy Winehouse, as he realised that the chemistry between him and Ditto and co wasn't "amazing" and he felt they were "forcing something".
