Graham Coxon collaborates with Tim Wheeler, Emmy The Great on film soundtrack

Indie trio team up to write songs for a new Britpop-themed film called 'The Wanderers'

Director Luke Snellin has confirmed that Graham Coxon is working on a film soundtrack with Ash’s Tim Wheeler and Emmy The Great.

The film, The Wanderers, follows the fortunes of a fictitious Britpop band as they strive for chart success during the summer of 1996.

Further to yesterday’s reports, Director Luke Snellin wrote on his personal blog: “The original music to be performed by The Wanderers in the film has been written by Tim Wheeler (Ash) and Emmy The Great (Austenland).”

He added: “Tim is producing the songs and Emma has written the lyrics. I approached Graham Coxon (Blur) to write the lead guitar parts on the tracks and we are working on these at the moment. The whole thing is a collaboration between three musicians whom I admire greatly and who have been incredibly generous with their time and talent.”

Snellin confirmed that “no deals have been signed on the music side as yet”, but praised the trio’s contributions so far. “Having heard the initial demos of the tracks, I’m ridiculously excited to hear the finished articles and begin rehearsals with The Wanderers,” he said.

The Wanderers is currently securing financing and will begin shooting “within the year”. Seventeen-year-old Bill Millner, best known for his role in Son Of Rambow, will play the lead, but no further casting announcements have been made.

Wheeler is currently putting together the score for Spike Island, the new film based on The Stone Roses‘ legendary gig on Merseyside in 1990, which is due for release later this year.

Blur will play a huge show next month in London’s Hyde Park to mark the end of this summer’s Olympics, topping a bill that also includes New Order, The Specials and Bombay Bicycle Club.
