Green Day scooped two awards during last night’s MTV Europe Awards at Lisbon’s Atlantic Pavilion (November 3).

The punk trio picked up the gongs for Best Album and Best Rock at the glitzy bash and also treated the crowd to a performance of their track ‘Holiday’.

At one point during the song, a fan invaded the stage but was whisked away by security.

Picking up the Best Album award for their ‘American Idiot’, singer Billie Joe Armstrong said: “We’ve been together as a group for a long time so this means a lot.”

Coldplay also won two accolades, when they were crowned Best Act UK & Ireland and walked away with Best Song for ‘Speed Of Sound’.

They also played live at the event, running through their next single to be taken from ‘X&Y’, ‘Talk’.

Gorillaz meanwhile were named Best Group despite their cartoon nature. Their performance at the ceremony came courtesy of beamed in holograms.

Madonna kicked off the ceremony, descending in a giant disco ball for the first performance of her new single ‘Hung Up’.

Following the show, various parties were hosted throughout Lisbon and Craig David and System Of A Down were spotted at the SonyBMG celebrations.

The main action took place at the Four Seasons hotel in the city centre. The night before the awards, Chris Martin and Kele Okereke from Bloc Party were seen in the bar chatting.

Other party-goers included actress Isla Fisher, Sugababes and members of Gorillaz[a/].
