Green Day perform new album '21st Century Breakdown' in full

Band premiere record at hometown gig - and also find time for some classics

Green Day premiered their new album '21st Century Breakdown' by playing the album in full at a comeback gig in Oakland, California on Tuesday (April 14).

The band, who are on a week-long tour of low-key hometown Bay Area shows, played to a packed auditorium at Oakland's Fox Theatre.

During the gig they played all three acts of '21st Century Breakdown' in order (18 tracks in total), followed by a 70-minute greatest hits set that saw them revisit tracks from earlier albums including 'Nimrod', 'Dookie' and 'American Idiot'.

Fans at the intimate club show were also given a free 'playlist' poster featuring the lyrics to every track on '21st Century Breakdown'.

At one point during the gig, singer Billie Joe Armstrong instructed the younger members of the crowd to skip school the following day, reports East Bay Express.

"Tell your Mom and Dad 'I'm not going to school tomorrow, fuck it,'" he said.

Green Day are playing a series of secret gigs throughout the Bay Area throughout the week.

Last night's show at the Uptown club saw the band take to the stage for a mammoth three-hour set. They again played '21st Century Breakdown' in its entirety, before throwing in tracks from their back catalogue and several covers.
