Green Day's American Idiot musical is to close on Broadway on April 24.

The show has run for 421 performances and 27 previews at the St James Theater on Broadway. It previously played at the Berkeley Repertory Theater in California.

Ticket sales sharply declined recently, after Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong left the cast. Now producers have made the decision to close the musical in New York for good, reports Hollywoodreporter.com.

Armstrong will return to the cast for the final three weeks of the run, beginning on April 5.

The Broadway closure isn't set to be the end for the musical, though. The show, which won two Tony awards in 2010 and a Grammy in 2011, is set to begin life as a touring musical in the autumn.
