Green Day's former US label Lookout! Records has officially closed its doors.

The independent punk label, which was founded in 1987, stopped officially releasing new music in 2006, but now it has finally been announced that the label has completely ceased business.

Former Lookout! Records artist Ted Leo announced the shut down of the label on his website Tedleo.com. He said:

Our beloved Lookout! Records, which ceased releasing new material in 2006, but carried on keeping the catalog in print until this past December, has, sadly, shuttered its windows for good.

The label released Green Day's first two albums - '39/Smooth' and 'Kerplunk' along with records by Operation Ivy, The Donnas, Avail, Screeching Weasel, The Queers, The Mr. T Experience and Citizen Fish.

Green Day's American Idiot musical meanwhile is set to tour the UK later this year. The jaunt starts at Southampton's Mayflower Theatre on October 9 and runs until early December, with a final week-long run at London's HMV Hammersmith Apollo.

The show is based around songs from Green Day's last two studio albums 'American Idiot' and '21st Century Breakdown'. A feature film version of the musical, which is being produced by Tom Hanks, is currently in development.

'American Idiot' will visit:

Southampton Mayflower Theatre (October 9 - 13)
Cardiff Millennium Centre (15 - 20)
Edinburgh Playhouse (22 - 27)
Glasgow Clyde Auditorium (29 - November 3)
Dublin Grand Canal Theatre (5 - 10)
Manchester Palace Theatre (12 - 24)
Birmingham Alexandra Theatre (26 - 30)
London HMV Hammersmith Apollo (December 3 - 8)
