Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong will still appear as a mentor on US TV talent contest The Voice.

"We're taped and all set," a representative from TV channel NBC said. Armstrong recorded his stints earlier this summer as a mentor on Christina Aguilera's team to help her acts progress in the competition, Rolling Stone reports.

The singer checked himself into a clinic for substance abuse treatment on Sunday (September 23) two days after an onstage meltdown during the band's performance at iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas - click at the top of the page to watch.

A statement published on Green Day's website read: "Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse. We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologise to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances."

The singer launched a foul-mouthed tirade at the end of the band's gig in Las Vegas gig on September 21. Believing that the band only had one minute of their slot remaining, Armstrong yelled: "Oh fuck this shit. I'm gonna play a fucking new song. Fuck this shit. Give me a fucking break. One minute left. You're gonna give me one fucking minute?"

He went on to say: "Let me tell you something, I've been around since 19-fucking-88. And you're gonna give me one fucking minute? You've gotta be fucking kidding me! You’re fucking kidding me. What the fuck! I'm not fucking Justin Bieber, you motherfuckers."

Armstrong concluded his outburst by smashing his guitar on the stage and aiming a parting shot at the audience, stating: "One minute. God fucking love you all. We'll be back."

Green Day released their new album 'iUno!', on Monday (September 24). The rest of the band's new album trilogy, '¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tré!', will be released in two other stages – with the second LP, '¡Dos!' coming out on November 12 and '¡Tré!' on January 14, 2013.

Last month the band announced a huge UK stadium show for next summer. The trio will headline London's 60,000 capacity Emirates Stadium on June 1, 2013. Tickets for the show will go onsale at the end of this month on September 28.
