China says 'Guns N' Roses' 'Chinese Democracy' is venomous'

State newspaper condemns Axl Rose's gang

A newspaper published by the ruling Chinese communist party, the Global Times, has described Guns N' Roses' new album, 'Chinese Democracy', as a "venomous attack" on China.

The title track of the album does not appear on Chinese versions of the album. It features a lyrical reference to the banned spiritual group Falun Gong and a lyric, "If your great wall rocks, blame yourself".

In an article the newspaper said that as well as the "venomous attack" the band "turns its spear point on China".

The band's official website, Web.gunsnroses.com, is blocked in the country, reports BBC News.

This isn't the first time Chinese authorities have clamped down on western musicians. In March bosses at the Chinese culture ministry said they would "tighten controls" on bands playing in the country after Bjork vocalised support for Tibet during a gig in Beijing.
