A police probe has been launched after Guns N' Roses guitarist DJ Ashba claimed he was given a helicopter tour of Las Vegas by the local police department.

Ashba documented his elaborate proposal to girlfriend Nathalia Henao on Saturday (August 10) and posted a picture of himself with his new fiancee wearing helicopter headgear on Instagram. Writing alongside the pictures, Ashba thanked the Las Vegas police department for "the most amazing helicopter private tour" of the city and later claimed that the trip had ended with him proposing in a police headquarters field complete with "a table set up covered in roses n a bottle of the bubble stuff".

The star tweeted: "That was the most incredible day of our life!! Special thx to the Las Vegas Police Dept." He added: "It was beautiful she didn't expect a thing, it was magical."

The Las Vegas Review reports that local police, who have recently been seeking to raise the sales tax to hire new officers, issued a statement confirming that two unnamed members of the public had taken a ride in a helicopter. Bill Cassell, a spokesman for the department, revealed that an internal investigation was under way to determine whether the ride breached policy.

Earlier this year, following rumours that Guns N' Roses were set to release a brand new album in 2014, guitarist Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal said that that although they were looking forward to making new music, they had not necessarily started recording as they wanted to get their current run of shows out of the way before heading to the studio.
