Gym Class Heroes singer arrested at Warped Tour
Travis McCoy was angered by racial slur
Gym Class Heroes singer Travis McCoy was arrested on the St Louis, MO stop of the Warped Tour last night (July 1) and charged with third-degree assault.
The singer was performing on stage when an audience member yelled a racial slur in which he called McCoy a “fucking ignorant nigger.”
As security were removing the man from the crowd, McCoy broke his microphone over the man’s head, and instantly apologised to the crowd saying “I’m sorry. But when someone calls you something that ignorant and that offensive, you have to bash their head in with a microphone, ” reports rollingstone.com.
When the band’s set came to a close, McCoy was arrested by police and held a local police station before being released this morning on $500 bond.
Gym Class Heroes are currently gearing up for the release of their third album ‘The Quilt’, set to be released on September 9. The album features collaborations with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump and Busta Rhymes, among others.
