Haim have dedicated their NME Award for Best International Band to the high school principal who almost didn't let them graduate. See above to see the band speak now.

The band appeared at the NME Awards 2014 with Austin, Texas on Wednesday night (February 26), collecting their prize from Jerry Hall. Speaking to NME after the ceremony, Alana Haim thanked the people of the UK for embracing them and explained how spending time with the band almost got in the way of finishing school back home in the US.

Speaking backstage at the O2 Academy Brixton, Alana said: "The UK has been so lovely to us, they've given us so much love. The fact we get to be here and win an award is really crazy and we're stoked and we love the UK. This is our first proper award that we have got at an awards ceremony. This is the first one, so it's a big deal for us."

Going on the dedicate the award to someone special, Haim adds: "We're going to give it to our high school principal who almost didn't let me graduate so he can fuck off!"

Alana Haim also retained her title of Best Twitter at the ceremony, joining fellow winners Arctic Monkeys, Disclosure, Lily Allen, Eagulls and Fat White Family on the stage.
