Shaun Ryder facing smoking ban rap
Happy Mondays singer defies the ban at gig
Happy Mondays singer Shaun Ryder could face a fine after he continually smoked cigarettes during a gig on Saturday (July 7) in Manchester, despite the recent smoking ban making his actions illegal.
Playing at the Ritz venue, according to fans Ryder chainsmoked throughout his band’s set, making him liable for the standard £50 fine dished out to those who flout the law.
Pat Karney from Manchester City Council said: “No matter how big he thinks he is, he is not above the law.”
The news comes a week after Pete Doherty was photographed smoking in a Soho bar in central London, on the day the smoking ban came into effect, although he was not fined on that occasion.
