Former Happy Mondays dancer Bez has been sent to jail for attempting to strangle his ex-fiancée Monica Ward.
Bez, real name Mark Berry, has been given a four-week sentence at Manchester Magistrates Court today (August 25) after refusing to perform unpaid work as a sentence, reports the Daily Mail.
Earlier this month the court heard how Bez squeezed Ward's neck, accused her of stealing money and pinned her to a door in their flat. He was convicted on charges of common assault and using violence to secure entry.
Magistrates said that after he refused the initial sentence they had "no choice" but to hand him a jail term.
