Broadcaster wants to serialise the singer's 'Twisting My Melon' autobiography

ITV are planning to make a biopic of Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder's life, according to reports.

The Guardian reports that the broadcaster is keen on serialising Ryder's autobiography Twisting My Melon for a television production.

Ryder's book details several bizarre and eventful incidents from his life, including anecdotes about dealing drugs in the Haçienda, being arrested for cocaine possession and kidnapping someone who tried to rob a tourbus being used by his former band Black Grape.

It is also reported that both Downtown Abbey star Rob James-Collier and Shameless actor Elliott Tittnesor have been linked with the titular role.

Earlier this month, the singer's TV show Shaun Ryder On UFOs debuted to mixed reviews. Ryder previously revealed that his interest in the subject dates back to an experience from his teenage years, stating: "When I was a kid, in 1978, I saw something that defies physics, you know, I saw something flying around the sky at about five or six thousand miles an hour.

"There were a couple of other girls that’d seen it, and a schoolboy going to grammar school, you know, so it wasn’t just me that saw the thing."

Happy Mondays are set to perform a spate of shows in November and December to mark the 25th anniversary of their album 'Bummed'. They will play:

Canterbury Kings Hall (November 21)
London The Forum (22)
Manchester Ritz (23)
Norwich UEA (25)
