Happy Mondays’ Bez: ‘We need a Bez Broadcasting Corporation spreading peace and love’

The reformed hedonist is standing as a candidate in the 2015 general election

Happy Mondays dancer Bez has revealed that he wants to start his own media channel to spread his message of revolution.

Earlier this year, the former dancer revealed that he will be standing as an independent candidate in the 2015 general election for the safe Labour seat Salford & Eccles. The seat is currently occupied by Hazel Blears, who is stepping down ahead of the election.

“All you see if war and greed on the telly, which changes people’s consciousness,” he says in this week’s NME, which is on newsstands now or available digitally. “Everything on the news is fear-based. We need a Bez Broadcasting Corporation spreading peace and love!”

“We need a revolution,” he continues. “But now I’ve crossed out the ‘r’ and am calling it ‘evolution’ because we need to evolve.”

Speaking about why people should support his Reality Party, he adds: “With The Reality Party, young people have an alternative. I’ve never voted in my life because there’s nobody to represent my views. I’m offering people the chance to change through the ballot box.”
