Henry Cavill to star as the new ‘Superman’

British actor cast as the 'Man Of Steel' in Zack Snyder's superhero reboot

Warner Bros. have announced that British actor Henry Cavill will play Superman in Zack Snyder‘s forthcoming reboot of the superhero icon.

The studio made the announcement today (January 30) via a joint statement with Legendary Pictures.

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognised and revered character of all time and I am honoured to be a part of his return to the big screen,” director Snyder said.

He continued: “I also join Warner Bros, Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

Cavill has appeared in films such as I Capture The Castle, Tristan + Isolde and Stardust, as well as appearing in TV drama The Tudors.

The actor came close to winning the titular role in 2006’s Superman Returns under original director McG.

But Brandon Routh was brought onboard instead when director Bryan Singer took over.

The new Superman film has the working title Man Of Steel. It is scheduled for release in December 2012.
