HQ Trivia launches its own social network

The first of a "variety of new features"

HQ Trivia has moved into social networking, launching a new feature called ‘Friends on HQ’.

The live quiz app has become a huge phenomenon since launching in the US last year. Its UK iteration followed in January.

Now, HQ has introduced its new ‘Friends on HQ’ function to connect users via its app. The feature has rolled out to UK users this week, with a US launch coming “soon after”.

The feature allows users to search for other friends that are playing and to keep an eye on how they are doing during games.

A spokesperson says: “This update forms the basis of a variety of new features that HQ will be rolling out soon, leveraging friends’ connections.”

According to Tech Crunch, HQ “looks to experiment more with monetisation” and “has begun chasing sponsorship deals with companies like Warner Bros and Nike”.

NME recently spoke to HQ Trivia’s UK host Sharon Carpenter, who said of the reasons behind the app’s success: “There is nothing out there like this. Every show is different, you never know what’s gonna happen and people enjoy the live experience. It’s like live television, you never know what could possibly happen and we’re bringing that to your smartphones.”
