Hurts have spoken about how they think their Best New Band win at the Shockwaves NME Awards last night (February 23) was a "victory for pop music".

The Manchester duo were up against Beady Eye, Two Door Cinema Club, Everything Everything and The Drums in the category. They also performed 'Wonderful Life' at the event.

"It was great to just come and play," Hutchcraft said. "I've been preparing since I was 11 years old to come. It was a great victory for pop music, this whole thing."

Speaking about 'Wonderful Life', the singer added: "It was a last ditch effort, we just did it. We were brave with it and stuck with it. It was great to play it in front of Dave Grohl and Jarvis Cocker. The first song I learned to play on guitar was [Foo Fighters'] 'Everlong'.
