Hurts' Adam Anderson admits to falling asleep onstage

'I got tired,' says one half of the Manchester duo

Hurts' Adam Anderson has admitted to once falling asleep onstage while mid-song.

The Manchester duo toured their debut album 'Happiness' relentlessly across the world and have told BBC Newsbeat that they pushed themselves so much while touring Eastern Europe, that Anderson fell asleep during a gig.

"I had a moment in Kiev," he revealed. "We've got this song called 'Unspoken' - it'll disappoint some of our fans, it's a very emotional song but at that moment, I got tired. I think (Theo) woke me up by slapping your hand on the piano."

Singer Theo Hutchcraft confirmed the story. He added: "There's a break in the middle where Adam doesn't play. It's just strings, but it must have been that bit."

Hurts released their second album 'Exile' last Monday (March 11). Speaking recently to NME, Hutchcraft revealed that the title was thought up while he was sitting in a bar in Osaka. He said 'Exile' came from "that sense of being in a weird place. Freedom, fear, isolation, joy, religion, punishment, the decadence that comes with exile – always being on tour, always being far from home. It did feel like we were on the run. Always chasing something."

The synthpop duo are currently on tour in mainland Europe but will return to the UK in April to play two one-off 'intimate' shows at Manchester's Academy 2 on April 1 and Glasgow's Garage on April 2.
