Ian Brown was joined onstage by former Happy Mondays star Paul Ryder last night (February 15) at his first UK show of 2006.

The former Stone Roses frontman performed three tracks with the bassist during the ShockWaves NME Awards 2006 concert at KOKO in London.

Brown, who was wearing dark shades and a black sports top emblazoned with a number 10 logo on the back, introduced The Happy Mondays star midway through his 75 minute gig when he said: "Please put your hands together for one of Manchester's soul music makers, Paul Ryder".

The pair went on to perform 'The Sweet Fantastic', 'Lovebug' and 'Time Is My Everything' before Ryder left the stage. The bassist had earlier performed his own set with new band Big Arm.

Throughout the show, Brown was on good form bantering with the crowd on the upper tier and at one point shouting: "It's OK to move you know, you're allowed to move up there. Are your feet nailed to the floor?"

The only hiccup during the set was when he had to start hit single 'Whispers' from scratch twice.

Unlike his previous shows which have often been peppered with Stone Roses classics, the solo singer opted for songs from his own back catalogue including 'Corpses', 'My Star', 'Keep What Ya Got' and 'Dolphins Were Monkeys'.

But he surprised the crowd during the encore when he said: "Any special requests? Any Roses covers?", before he went on to perform a stunning rendition of 'I Am The Resurrection'.

Brown then threw in another surprise when he covered Bob Marley's 'Redemption Song' and the chorus to 'Three Little Birds'.

He ended the show with F.E.A.R.

Brown played:

'Golden Gaze'
'Dolphins Were Monkeys'
'Set My Baby Free'
'All Ablaze'
'Whispers'
'The Sweet Fantastic'
'Lovebug'
'Time Is My Everything'
'Corpses'
'Longsight M13'
'My Star'
'Destiny Or Circumstance'
'Keep What Ya Got'
'I Am The Resurrection'
'Redemption Song'/'Three Little Birds'
'F.E.A.R'
