The late IAN DURY is to be remembered by a unique memorial unveiled today (April 29) in RICHMOND PARK, LONDON.
A musical bench, which plays a selection of the former Blockheads leader's songs, has been erected at Poet's Corner in the park. Dury's son and daughter were present this morning when the bench was dedicated.
The bench is solar powered and fitted with an internal MP3 player. Fans will be able to sit on the bench, take in the view high over Richmond Park plug in their stereo headphones and listen to Dury's songs. Eight tunes are available to hear, as well as an interview with Dury where he discusses his 'Desert Island Discs'.
Dury died in March 2000 after a long battle with cancer. His family said he would have been delighted with the bench, sitting as it does at a place in the park he visited regularly, especially towards the end of his life.
The bench was donated by the Dury family and sponsored by Warner Chappell Music, a spokesperson for the park said.
