There's one space left on the LP - and NME.COM is inviting any established bands or performers who were fans of Dury to get in touch...

ROBBIE WILLIAMS, MADNESS, SHANE MACGOWAN and BILLY BRAGG are amongst the names who have recorded tracks for a tribute album to the late IAN DURY, due for release on the first anniversary of DURY's death in March 2001, NME.COM can exclusively reveal.

Each of the acts has covered a track from 'New Boots And Panties', Dury's 1977 breakthrough album. A spokesperson confirmed that Williams, a close friend of Dury's, had recorded a version of 'Sweet Gene Vincent', the song he performed at Brixton Academy on June 16 in a tribute concert to Dury. As at the show, Williams has recorded the track with Dury's Blockheads. Shane MacGowan too has recorded his track with the Blockheads. No further track information is currently available.

The album will go on sale on March 26 through Ronnie Harris Records, almost a year to the day after Dury died (March 27, 2000) following a long battle with cancer. Profits from the sale will be donated to Cancer Bacup, the charity for which Dury was a longtime supporter.

Peter Blake, the man behind the Beatles' legendary 'Sgt. Pepper's...' album cover, has designed the artwork.

In a final twist to the story, a spokesperson for the parent label responsible for the release, East Central 1, has revealed that the track 'Blockheads' has yet to covered. He has asked NME.COM to, on their behalf, invite any established bands or performers who were fans of Ian Dury and would like to cover the track as tribute to get in touch. Contact us via and we'll pass on the info.
