Incubus' manager Steve Rennie has played down suggestions that the band are set to take a "hiatus" and has said that the reports of a lengthy break have been blown out of proportion.

The California quintet previously took a lengthy break between their 2006 album 'Light Grenades' and their July 2011 work 'If Not Now, When?' and had suggesting that they are planning to take another hiatus, with Brandon Boyd implying he will record his second solo album.

Speaking to Billboard, singer Brandon Boyd said of the band's plans after they complete their summer tour with Linkin Park: "We have no plans, to tell you the truth, at the moment, I have been tinkering around, potentially, with a second solo record. That's probably the most likely scenario. But as far as Incubus right now, we'll probably take another break."

He continued: "Hopefully it won't be as long as before, but what we'd like to do is arrive with the best of intentions and try to create music from a sense of urgency as well as purity and not necessarily based on a schedule. I know that can be frustrating for our listeners and stuff, but I think we'll make better music as a result."

However Rennie has moved to reassure fans that this isn't the case and the band are just in need of a break after over 18 months' worth of touring in support of 'If Not Now, When?'.

He told CBS Local: "Incubus has always taken a bit of a break after making an album and touring in support of it. After they finish the Honda Civic tour, they’ll have been on the road for a year and a half. Any band would need a break after that."

Then asked if the word 'hiatus' was accurate in this case, Rennie added: "Let's not get locked into the word 'hiatus'. They just need to get rejuvenated and inspired to make their next album. Bands like Incubus don't crank out music on a schedule. Taking time to work on other things only adds to what they can bring to the table when they regroup.

Incubus played a one-off UK show last month. The band were due to make their only UK appearance of 2012 at the cancelled Sonisphere Festival, but headlined London's O2 Academy Brixton on July 9.
