The band stay in their native New York

Interpol have begun recording their third album.

The follow-up to 2004’s ‘Antics’ is expected to be released at some point in mid to late 2007.

In a message posted on their official website, the band explained: “The atmosphere and environs of a recording facility affect the sound and feel of an album in the subtlest ways. And we are affected. And it is subtle.”

The album is being recorded in New York’s Soho and they say they “are enjoying being local”.

As previously reported on NME.COM, working titles of some new songs include 'The Heimlich Manoeuvre' and 'Pawn Shop'.

The band recently left their label Matador and have signed to Capitol Records.
