Interpol, Breeders, Nick Cave close Latitude 2008

Rain can't stop dark acts bringing good vibes to Suffolk

Interpol battled through the rain to bring Latitude Festival to a dramatic close tonight (Julay 20).

New York's favourite doom-rockers headlined the Suffolk festival's Obelisk Arena this evening, delighting fans despite the onset of rainfall in the second half of the set.

The band thrilled fans with tracks from throughout their career including 'Mammoth' and 'Obstacle 1', finally encoring with early hit 'Stella Was A Diver And She Was Always Down'.

Interpol followed US indie legends The Breeders, who had mixed old and new material with their regular cover of The Beatles’ classic 'Happiness Is A Warm Gun'.

Frontwoman Kim Deal made light of Latitude's family-friendly reputation. She said: "Given though this is a family affair, we all know someone who's a meth head or a speed freak."

Meanwhile, showcasing his occasional side project Grinderman, legend Nick Cave proved just as effusive, teasing an audience member: "You're all beautiful people. Especially you. Are you a man or a woman? It's so fucking hard to tell these days. You, with the rabbit ears. You'll make someone a lovely husband one day. Especially at Easter."

Elsewhere the Uncut Arena saw memorable sets from Blondie and Tindersticks.
