INXS pay tribute to Michael Hutchence

It's ten years today since their singer died

Members of the band INXS have paid tribute to singer Michael Hutchence on today’s (November 22) tenth anniversary of his sudden death.

The star was found dead in a Sydney hotel room aged 37. A coroner found the star had died from suffocation caused by hanging.

Writing on the band’s official website, drummer John Farris said: "Michael will always be remembered as a young, vibrant, gifted and passionate person.

He added: "Michael will live on through his brilliant melodies and lyrics. I feel proud that INXS can continue to play the music he helped create."

Bassist Garry Beers thanked fans for their "thoughts for Michael" and encouraged them to make a charitable donation in his memory.

He also said: "I will always remember him as a great friend who always made an effort to help others."

Formed in 1977, INXS had huge worldwide success with Hutchence, particularly with their 1987 album 'Kick'. The record spawned the hits 'Need You Tonight' and 'Mystify'.

After playing with a number of guest singers, INXS eventually recruited a replacement front man, JD Fortune, through a reality TV talent search in 2005.
