APPLE launched the IPOD PHOTO in the US yesterday (October 26), allowing users to take their entire digital photo library on the move.




The iPod Photo holds up to 25,000 photos alongside the music library, and gives the option of combining the two to create slideshows.




The new design has a TV-out socket so that the slideshows can be watched on the big screen, as well as the iPod’s own high-resolution screen.




Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO said: "Having both your entire photo and music collections with you wherever you go is the next big thing. Everyone has a digital camera and wants to enjoy and share their growing library of digital photos wherever they are. Unlike video content, photo content is free and abundant, and there are no copyright issues to deal with."



The iPod Photo is available in 40GB or 60GB models which hold up to 10,000 or 15,000 songs, and has an extended battery life allowing users up to 15 hours of music playback or up to 5 hours of slideshows. Owners of the new model can now view album artwork in full colour. Prices start from £359.



Apple also extended the European version of the iTunes store, meaning music fans in Austria, Belgium, Finland, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain can use the service.



Yesterday also saw the unveiling of the U2 iPod, which holds up to 5,000 songs and features a black and red casing and engravings of band member signatures.



"We want our audience to have a more intimate online relationship with the band, and Apple can help us do that," said frontman Bono. "With iPod and iTunes, Apple has created a crossroads of art, commerce and technology which feels good for both musicians and fans."
