Apple launch new 'internet on the go' iPod Touch

Apple have announced details of a new iPod called the "iPod Touch" today (September 5).

Speaking from California, Apple founder Steve Jobs said the new product would feature music, video, photos and wi-fi.

Jobs added that the product would feature a web browser that would allow users to access the internet on the go.

The device will also feature Youtube, Google, with Jobs explaining that "it is the first time in history a portable music player has featured this”.

It will also feature a "wi-fi music store".

He also demonstrated several upgraded products, including a new iPod Nano that is noticeably smaller than earlier models.

It features a new screen for a new video interface which includes more artwork access and three new games including "Vortex", a Sudoku game.

Jobs claimed with the new products Apple had "nailed it".

He also announced new coloured iPod Shuffles, and explained that the normal iPod would be rebranded as "iPod Classic".

These new versions of this product would feature 80 and 100 gigabyte models with full metallic covers.

In addition, Jobs who spoke worldwide via a video link, confirmed the launch of a new ringtone service which users could use to make their own tones.

Using iTunes customers will be able to customise their own tones from existing songs and can then use it on the forthcoming iPhone, which is already available in the US.

There the new service will retail for 99 cents, with Jobs demonstrated the service using Aretha Franklin’s ’Respect’, which he said he would make the tone for his wife.

He also made ringtones in the press conference, using songs by the B-52s[/b] and [a]Gorillaz.

Apple also announced a partnership with Starbucks that will allow coffee shop chain's customers in the US to sync up with their new iPod Touch to listen to whatever is playing in the store.
