iPod enjoys record number in sales over holiday season

High sales keep Apple in profit despite recession

Record iPod sales internationally helped Apple turn a profit in the last quarter of last year, with 22.7 million sold.

Apple Inc. showed a 2% profit, even during the current economic recession, which was also due in part to high sales of the iPhone and Macbook.

The growth in iPod sales came from outside the US, where there was a three per cent drop. Macbooks showed a nine per cent increase, thanks to the newly revamped Macbook that was released in October, while the iPhone sold 4.4 million, which was short of the predicted five million.

The total sales improved by six per cent to $10.2 billion, according to Yahoo.
