Iron Maiden bassist and chief songwriter Steve Harris has announced that he will release his debut solo album on September 24.

The record, which is titled 'British Lion', contains 10 tracks in all. It has been mixed by Kevin Shirley and features contributions from Richard Taylor and guitarist David Hawkins.

Speaking about the album and its title, Harris said: "I've always been proud to be British. I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be. It's a massive part of being me. It's not like I'm flag-waving or trying to preach, this is not a political statement at all."

He continued: "It's like supporting your football team, where you come from. I just think it lends itself to some really strong imagery too, and to me it fits in with the sound."

Iron Maiden are currently touring North America, and play a show at Detroit's DTE Music Theatre tonight (July 18).

The tracklisting for 'British Lion' is as follows:

'This Is My God'
'Lost Worlds'
'Karma Killer'
'Us Against The World'
'The Chosen Ones'
'A World Without Heaven'
'Judas'
'Eyes Of The Young'
'These Are The Hands'
'The Lesson'
