Iron Maiden have launched their own brand of beer.
The cask ale, named Trooper after their 1983 single, will first be made available in pubs around Stockport, near the Robinsons brewery where the beer will be made. Singer Bruce Dickinson told The Sun they also plan to sell bottles of the 4.7 per cent strength beer at gigs, before rolling out the brand across the UK, and later worldwide.
Dickinson said: "Iron Maiden is something quintessentially British — so we said we should be doing a real ale. We have to satisfy the thirst of Iron Maiden fans around the world, and there are a lot of them."
Maiden aren't the first band to release their own brand of booze. Fellow rockers AC/DC launched a wine range last year, including Back In Black Shiraz, while Motorhead have their own line of vodka Elbow, who created their own Build A Rocket Boys! beer, Pearl Jam, with their Faithfull Ale, and The Hold Steady, who created a low-alcohol IPA called Clear Heart Ale, are among other artists to get involved in brewing.
Meanwhile, Iron Maiden paid tribute to their former drummer Clive Burr, who passed away earlier this week. The drummer, who joined the band in 1979 and played on the band's first three albums, had been suffering from multiple sclerosis and reportedly died in his sleep at home.
