Soul legend in hospital

‘Shaft’ star being treated for exhaustion

Isaac Hayes, the soul legend, is being treated in a Memphis hospital for exhaustion.

The R&B star, best known for his 1971 soundtrack to the blaxploitation film ‘Shaft’, had just completed a series of gigs in Atlantic City, New Jersey and Tunica, Mississippi.

“He was just overworked,” songwriting partner David Porter told the local 'Commercial Appeal' newspaper.

The 63 year-old star is also the voice of Chef on the TV cartoon ‘South Park’, and has recently appeared in the critically acclaimed film 'Hustle & Flow'.
