Digital market set to expand in 2006

iTunes 'set to get competition'

iTunes are set to face strong competition from Amazon and Google, who are on course to launch their own digital music services.

Senior executives of two of the world’s four largest music companies said they were keen to collaborate with Amazon and Google, according to the Financial Times.

The executive told the paper that Amazon could launch its download service as early as the spring of this year.

Last week, Google said they had no plans to launch a digital music service, despite rumours to the contrary.

iTunes currently holds a 70-80% share of the world’s largest markets for legal digital music sales.
