Ja Rule has denied leaving his wife for his prison cell mate.

The rapper's wife Aisha Atkins reportedly made the claim on MTV's Married Life After Prison, and reports Metro, the quotes were then shared online. Atkins allegedly said: "He wrote all them love songs and still don't know how to treat a bitch... We spent 10-plus years building our marriage but it only took him two to decide he'd rather suck a dick than be with his wife."

Ja Rule, who was released from prison earlier this year, has now taken to Twitter to refute claims made by Atkins that he left her for his male cell mate, calling her words "lies". He wrote:

Ja Rule was released from prison earlier this year after serving nearly two years on tax evasion and gun charges. The rapper was incarcerated in New York's Ray Brook jail after being sentenced to 28 months in prison for failing to pay £710,000 in taxes between 2004 and 2008. The 37-year-old was also sentenced to two years in prison for possessing a semi-automatic handgun, which was discovered by police in his car after a New York gig in 2007.

Ja Rule has scored two Number One albums in his career – 2000's 'Rule 3:36' and 2001's 'Pain Is Love', which was also nominated for a Grammy. He also collaborated with Jennifer Lopez on the tracks 'I'm Real' and 'Ain't It Funny'.
