One Direction have taken issue with Jake Bugg calling them "terrible" in a recent interview.

When asked by Shortlist how he felt about people suggesting that One Direction are rock stars, he replied: "Who the fuck is saying that?" When told Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger have spoken about the group in recent interviews, he responded: "Oh, I’m pretty sure they have a good laugh... But it’s easy to, isn’t it? When you don’t have to write any songs. People [call them the new Beatles] because they broke America, but that don’t mean a thing. I mean, [One Direction] must know that they’re terrible. They must know... Calling them the new rock stars is a ridiculous statement. And people should stop making it."

Now One Direction's Louis Tomlinson has hit back on Twitter, wtiting "Hi @JakeBugg do you think slagging off boy bands makes you more indie?" his bandmate Niall Horan added: "Really buggs me that artists we're fans of, flip on us in the press!"

One Direction aren’t the only band Jake Bugg's been having a pop at recently. Earlier this month he said that he felt music was losing touch with its working class roots, saying that Mumford & Sons looked like "posh farmers with banjos" before adding "but I don't have anything against anyone's background".
