Jake Bugg could release his second studio album later this year, according to reports.

Rolling Stone claims that the Nottingham singer-songwriter told them that he had nearly finished recording the LP and that he was hopeful he cold release it by the end of 2013.

Speaking about working with producer Rick Rubin on the record, meanwhile, Bugg said: "I'll take some ideas to him and he'll be like, 'Why don't you repeat that line?' As an artist you can get quite defensive about your work. But it never feels like Rick's imposing on that. He likes to try and get the best of an artist."

Meanwhile, when asked if he was worried that he was releasing a follow-up to his debut LP too quickly, Bugg replied: "I don't really see any harm in it. It seems like the right thing to do. Might as well keep up the momentum, you know? In this time that I've been touring and traveling the world I had a lot of new experiences and opportunity. Why not write about it?"

Last month, Bugg said that it would be "dishonest" if he plundered the same lyrical themes of council estate life that featured on his self-titled first record. "I want to give an insight to the same people who liked the first record about what my life is like now," he said. "That's not really a change from my first album, because all I'm doing is writing about my life. I'd never left Nottingham when I wrote those first songs, but I've travelled the world and hopefully people can relate to what I've gone through."

Jake Bugg will tour the UK in October. The dates will follow appearances at Reading and Leeds Festivals, as well as slots supporting The Stone Roses over the summer.

Jake Bugg will play:

Bournemouth BIC (October 19)
Plymouth Pavilions (20)
Brighton Centre (22)
