'Avatar' director is mulling over the project
James Cameron is in talks to direct Cleopatra, which will star Angelina Jolie as the Egyptian queen.
The Titanic and Avatar director could take charge of the 3D film, which is being produced by Scott Rudin and is based on the book Cleopatra: A Life by Stacy Schiff.
The film is not a remake of the 1963 epic which starred Elizabeth Taylor.
The actress previously said: “I think if we can get the story right and… a lot about her has not been covered. If we can do something original we will. But no director yet.”
Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chair Amy Pascal told Deadline.com that she is excited about the film after Green Zone screenwriter Bran Helgeland submitted a “brilliant script deserving of epic treatment” about “what the Romans took from Egypt”.
Cameron is currently working on new film called The Dive, along with a proposed Avatar sequel.
