Jamie T plays special shows for Aussie fans
And the star talks to NME.COM afterwards
The star played to sell-out crowds at Candy’s Apartment in Sydney (May 8) and Melbourne’s Ding Dong Lounge (May 10).
In Melbourne, the crowd sang along to every song on Jamie’s hand-scrawled setlist including ‘Salvador’, which he dedicated to Libby from ‘Neighbours’, “’Cos I’ve always fancied her”.
Playing on a borrowed acoustic four-string bass, Jamie informed the rowdy audience, “Mine broke today. Someone said earlier that this one looks like Good Charlotte’s bass, which I’m not happy about.”
The set also included covers of songs by Billy Bragg (‘A New England’) and The Clash's ('(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais’).
Jamie told NME.COM he’s enjoyed his time down under, especially Melbourne.
He said: “It reminds me of London or New York, I love it. I’m doing a proper tour here in September.”
Before that, he’s got a busy summer ahead. On returning to the UK today (May 13), he gets five days off before flying to Germany for an 11-date tour. Then it’s back to the UK to begin a packed festival calendar across Europe, including Glastonbury.
He admitted: “I’ve never been before, I’m really looking forward to it.”
Jamie T's Melbourne set was:
‘A New England’
‘Ike And Tina’
‘If You Got The Money’
‘Calm Down Dearest’
‘(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais’
‘So Lonely Was The Ballad’
‘Back In The Game
‘Operation’
‘Salvador’
‘Brand New Bass Guitar’
‘Sheila’
