Jamie T packed out the Festival Republic Stage for a surprise set, which he announced via Twitter earlier today.

Fans were already climbing onto each other's shoulders as he took to the stage shortly after 7.30pm, launching straight into opener 'The Man's Machine' from his 2009 second album 'Kings And Queens'.

"Are you ready! It's good to see you all," he yelled before 'Don’t You Find' – the first track to be revealed from his forthcoming comeback album 'Carry On The Grudge', to which fans were already singing along. "It's nice to be back. I've been away for a really long time so it's nice to be here," he said.

Up next was the first track from his 2007 debut album 'Panic Prevention', fan-favourite 'Salvador', which saw audience members being dragged out of the raucous crowd by security. 'Hocus Pocus' followed, after which he chucked water into the crowd to mass cheers.

He then launched into another 'Panic Prevention' track 'If You Got The Money', during which the audience chanted "Jamie T" until he kicked off '368' from 'Kings & Queens'.

The band then departed as the stage lights went down, leaving him to take to the stage solo with just a guitar for accompaniment for another early track, 'Back In The Game'.

"I first came to Reading Festival when I was 15 years old. I saw a band called Rancid playing," he said afterwards, before set highlight 'Sheila', during which a giant inflatable chair was chucked around the audience and fans were pulled over the barrier for crowdsurfing.

Mid way through next track 'Zombie', a fan managed to saunter onto stage to take a selfie with the singer before security dragged him off.

"Are you having a good time?" he roared afterwards before closing the set with 'Kings & Queens' standout track 'Sticks ‘N’ Stones'.

Jamie T will release his long-awaited LP on September 29.
