Jamie xx says new solo album has ‘definitely informed The xx’s next record’

The xx drummer will release solo debut 'In Colour' ahead of his band's upcoming third LP

The xx drummer Jamie xx has claimed that his new solo record has influenced what his band’s new album will sound like.

The electronic musician’s debut solo LP ‘In Colour’ will be released by Young Turks on June 1 and features The xx’s own Oliver Sim and Romy Madley Croft, plus Young Thug, and Popcaan.

Speaking to NME in the latest issue, available digitally and on newsstands now, Jamie xx said that his bandmates have cameos on his solo effort because “they’re the people who I work best with”.

He added, “The [solo] album feels like the next part of what we’re all doing rather than just be branching off… It has definitely informed what we’re doing for the next [xx] album.”

Late last year, The xx confirmed that they had been working on follow-up to 2012’s ‘Coexist’ in Texas and Iceland.

Speaking to NME, Jamie xx also discussed the method behind his working process.

He said;: “I bring a field recorder with me whenever I go out – all the transitions on the record came from the chatter of people standing outside clubs”.

The ‘In Colour’ tracklisting is as follows:

‘Gosh’
‘Sleep Sound’
‘Seesaw’ [feat. Romy]
‘Obvs’
‘Just Saying’
‘Stranger In A Room’ [feat. Oliver Sim]
‘Hold Tight’
‘Loud Places’ [ft. Romy]
‘I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)’ [feat. Young Thug and Popcaan]
‘The Rest Is Noise’
‘Girl’
