Janelle Monae is set to play a trio of UK shows this coming May.

She will appear at Manchester Academy 1 on May 7 before a show at Birmingham The Institute on May 8, finishing the short run of gigs at London O2 Academy Brixton on May 9. Tickets go on sale at 9am on February 7.

Last year Monae was forced to postpone a string of US tour dates for "mandatory vocal rest". The singer, who released her second full-length album 'The Electric Lady' in September 2013, said in a statement on her website that she was postponing the shows on doctors' orders.

"Starting today, I am under strict doctor's orders for mandatory vocal rest," the statement read. "Not doing so could possibly result in damage to my vocal chords."

'The Electric Lady' features a number of high-profile cameos including a collaboration with Prince on the track 'Givin Em What They Love' and a duet with Solange titled 'Electric Lady'. 'Primetime', her collaboration with Miguel, samples the Pixies' 1988 song 'Where Is My Mind?'.

Janelle Monae will play:

Manchester Academy 1 (May 7)
Birmingham The Institute (8)
London O2 Academy Brixton (9)
