Janelle Monáe covers Robert Palmer's 'Simply Irresistible' - listen

The singer will be playing a short run of UK shows in May

Janelle Monae has covered Robert Palmer's 1988 single 'Simply Irresistible'.

Click above to hear Monáe's version of the song, which was covered for E!'s Live From the Red Carpet coverage of last night's (March 2) 2014 Academy Awards. Monae is set to play a trio of UK shows this coming May.

She will appear at Manchester Academy 1 on May 7 before a show at Birmingham The Institute on May 8, finishing the short run of gigs at London O2 Academy Brixton on May 9. Last year Monae was forced to postpone a string of US tour dates for "mandatory vocal rest". The singer, who released her second full-length album 'The Electric Lady' in September 2013, said in a statement on her website that she was postponing the shows on doctors' orders.

'The Electric Lady' features a number of high-profile cameos including a collaboration with Prince on the track 'Givin Em What They Love' and a duet with Solange titled 'Electric Lady'. 'Primetime', her collaboration with Miguel, samples the Pixies' 1988 song 'Where Is My Mind?'.

Janelle Monae will play:

Manchester Academy 1 (May 7)
Birmingham The Institute (8)
London O2 Academy Brixton (9)
